Honestly, who would truly decide and freely choose to be a homosexual in this day and age? Yes, we are a more liberal, freer society then the past, but there is MASSIVE discrimination against homosexuals in our present day society. If someone had the free choice to be hetrosexual or homosexual - who would willing choose to be homosexual?

It is something in our genes, or the chemicals and hormones in our bodies that guide our sexual preferances. Genetists and Scientists are making more discoveries everyday. It's nature not nurture, if your sexual preferance was based on the way you were raised than people raised by heterosexuals would be heterosexual - but obviously that is not the case. Heterosexuals are raising homosexuals and homosexuals are raising heterosexuals.

Please use some common sense when thinking about these things. Would you willing choose to be a homosexual in today's society?

I would never choose to be homosexual because I like being with men. (1) However I really do think is is a combined nature and nurture that make a person choose to be homosexual. Notice I said choose. I think that there are still people that have the nature but are still in the closet. That is what I think is meant by the word choose. This being said. If I had the nature to be homosexual, it would still be difficult to choose to tell the world.

For the record, my flat out answer is yes.

To elaborate, I am extremely aware of the issues the GLBT community are facing. Being GAY, FEMALE, BLACK, and a "young adult" is a pretty lethal combination for my own survival in this, unfortunately close-minded, fearful, and judgemental society.

Although, I had no choice in determining my sexuality in this life, I wouldn't change it...even, if it meant something like financial security for the rest of my life. If I had a chance to start over, I'd feel the same way. I'd just wish I realized it and accepted it earlier. It sure would have saved me a lot of stress.

I am who/what I am...a music lover! Why should anything else besides my compassion for people be of any consequence to anyone else?

I also feel if information about GLBTs were more readily available to younger people, it would make a world of difference(positive) in figuring out their own identities (not necessarily GLBT), as well as feeling more comfortable around different types of people.

~Cheers

It is definatly born into us. Just as I did not choose to be attracted to beautiful women, sometimes I wonder what if it was natural for men to be with men could i? the answer is no i couldnt. I would still be attracted to women. Some folks argue that homosexulas should be able to fight the urge but ask a heterosexual to do the same thing and youll be thought crazy.

Just let people live.

I agree with you for the most part, but there is a small segment out there that does choose to be gay (I've known a couple that think it's cool or rebellious).

Most of the people I know really were born gay. They knew from 5 or younger that they liked the same sex. They are the ones that go through a lifetime of disrimination and pain.

The poser wannabes (yep, they're out there) that want to be gay because it's cool make me mad, but there's not a lot I can do about it.
