I conceived my daughter at age 35 after 8 rounds of Clomid. I am 38 now and on my 6th round of Clomid ttc again. According to my bbt charts, I have been ovulating. My husband's sperm count is normal. I just went to a fertility specialist yesterday and he told me that he only recommends 3 rounds of Clomid before moving on to a more agressive approach. Because of my age, he recommends IVF. However, my insurance doesn't cover any infertility treatments. So, he gave me an option of trying Femara. I'm just wondering if anyone has switched from Clomid to Femara and had success conceiving? If so, how long did it take you to conceive on the Femara? Any personal experiences you can share would be helpful. Thank you.

I had success....sorta! I have irregular periods (maybe 3 or 4 a year) and I was orignally prescribed Clomid. I did 4 rounds of Clomid (just the 50 mg dose) with no success. I didn't chart or anything while using the Clomid, so I don't even know if I was even ovulating.
We moved and my new OB/GYN prescribed me Femara. I took my first round of Femara (5mg). I took OPKs and checked my cervical mucous during that time frame they told me I'd be ovulating and was real disappointed (and discouraged) because everything came up negative! A few weeks later, they wanted me start another round of Femara, but for some reason, I just didn't feel good about doing it. I took a HPT and it came up positive! I had no idea when I actually ovulated and never found out for sure because it sadly ended in miscarriage with the baby measuring 6 weeks and 6 days. It was a success in it's own way; atleast I know I can get pregnant!
I found out that women who use fertility drugs to conceive are already at a higher risk of miscarriage. So I have no idea if my miscarriage was due to low hormone levels, genetics, stress, or a side effect of Femara.
Since the drug is relatively new in the infertility world, there haven't been too many studies and there aren't too many people using it compared to Clomid!
We are trying again with the Femara....and this time I am charting everything!
I hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck!
