There's a joke. A Norwegian, and Swede, and a Dane were at a party. The Norwegian and the Swede were waiting to be introduced and the Dane was cracking jokes.

I'm a Swede in modern time and the we are a reserved people but when ice is broken the warmest heart is there but its a heart coming from lonely centuries in cold darkness.Deep woods and stupid Christianity.
In Minn most Scandinavian took their homes so its a parallel growth were i suspect as the case is with most white US culture its a twisted variety on Eurocentricisity.
Or as here Scandicentric ignorance. This could have resulted in a value system were to not mingle with strangers is a virtue.Like in Texas were the creation of the world is said being 5000 years ago.And that wiev are a perversion of a originally unhealthy Eurocenricity most of Europe lost track of round Fascism's birth.

I think that's the common belief, but I read one time where it may seem like Scandinavians (as a group) come off as very cold inititally, but after a few moments of friendliness they are extremely warm. However, this is a kind of stereotype . . . no matter where you go you'll meet with different cultures that influence different people's reactions. Underneath that, most of us want a little friendship. ;) Just be friendly yourself and you'll always get great benefits. . .

I have been to Sweden twice ( Malmo and Gotenburg) and I was surprised by how friendly and nice the swedish people were! Also the majority could speak good english! I loved it and would definetely go again!
I went to Denmark, once, ( Copenhagen) and they were even friendlier than Sweden!! I really loved it there too!!
I have never been to Finland or Norway, though.

People see what they want to see, I think.
If you expect people to be unfriendly, you'll see that.
