I need your help again, in setting up our two computers via cross over cable. I have done the required configurations needed to share internet connection, printer and file. Worgroup name is same on both the computers and they show that they are connected @ 100.0 Mbps. When I go to "Network Places" and click on "View Workgroup computers" it says "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact your network administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available". (This happens both; the host and the client computer). As I run the NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS, the results displayed are pinging 192.168.0.1 request time out. Packets sent: 4, Lost: 4. (IP Subnet is: 255.255.255.0)
Any help is appreciated. Please reply fast.

turn off any firewall software. The two PCs must be static IP addresses, and different from each other.
you might also make sure that the network cards are set for the same mode, ie 100/full duplex, etc.

RTO / Request Time Out's NOT a problem for FIREWALL. No SOFTWARE PROBLEMS. Although the status's Connected.
The problem lays on your LAN cable. Check at its CAP is it has a same color in one side and another side ?
Eg. one's WhiteOrange-Orange-WhiteGreen-Blue-WhiteBlue-Green-WhiteBrown-Brown and the other side cap's a same.
If that so then your cable's STRAIGHT Type. AND it means you cannot use that cable for connecting 2 PCs. You'll need a HUB / Switch for it.
For Simple cable connecting using cable for only 2PC without any HUB / Switch, use Cross type Cable. For the color in Cross I suggest you to follow the link below and seek for Section :
"100base-T Crossed cable (PC to PC or HUB to HUB)"
After putting the correct color and still not working, then the problem's at "are all the cable really connected well with the CAP" ? Check it using LAN TESTER. There must be some cable didn't connect well.
Here's a link for Sraight and cross type cable :
http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cables/tech_lan.htm
After LAN testing success, then you be able to using pinging. How do I use Pinging ?
1. open Command Prompt
2. Type ping 192.168.0.xxx -t (-t = unlimited)
3. To stop it, press Ctrl+C
I'm sure this 100% worked, since I doing this for many many years experience :)
Feel free to contact me ^_^

They're right about win firewall -- you won't be able to ping w/ it turned on.
You didn't mention the other ip address -- I hope it's something like 192.168.0.2
edit...
asep: you will definitely get a request time out when win firewall of the machine you are pinging is on...you are right about mentioning the cable.
Did you make or purchase the crossover cable?

first,, if you have a firewall program as zonealarm,, you have to shut it down completely,(coz its configuration to allow networking is difficult),, you have to turn it off on both computers. When you set up your network,,, choose ( other ) which is the third option,, then,, choose ( Next ) then choose the second option which said ( this computer connects directly to the internet, I do not have network yet ),, then next then choose the same name for workgroup on both,,
I did that and I succeded

Also, check to make sure that the client and the host have different IP addresses. You may want to forgo the crossover cable and buy a net router with switch. They usually have DHCP table built in to give you seperate IP addresses.

Get ip address of both computers, then put them in trusted zone in firewall settings. This will fix your issue.
