I'm the assistant manager in my dept, (more of the manager actually) anyway, I have 4 co-workers & I was thinking of buying each of them a box of chocolates or even one of those life saver books, do y'all think that's a good idea? I know me being the manager, I should buy them something bigger (or better) but I kid u not, they get paid more than I do (Im serious, i've only been in this position for 1yr 1month, & I still haven't gotten a raise, but that's a different story). Last year, I had just been promoted to asst, manager, so I didnt get them anything!!!! Do y'all have any ideas, inexpensive please?

To me, it's the thought that counts!!!

In a similiar situation--low budget--I bought everyone a $5 scratch off that promised $50,000 to a big winner. Everyone was delighted and one person even won $32. The thought of winning something and planning what you might do is a real pleasant thought.

Depends.

If you know they are on a diet and can't have very many sweets, chocolate is going to make it very hard for them to keep their commitments.
If they aren't on a diet, chocolate is just fine.

My ideas for getting inexpensive gifts? Try shopping at a thrift store or dollar store. Sometimes these places have items that make good, general gifts. (such as: candles or body lotion)

No candy please. Most people get too much candy anyhow.

If you're a manager, on a tight budget, and would like to do something nice for your subordinates, why not give them coupons for some little work related slack-off. Such as a coupon for "good for an extra half hour lunch" or "good for coming in late once". Wouldn't cost you anything, and it would be appreciated or at least humorous.

the lifesaver books are cute, but i think you should make them ornaments, you need 4 glass clear ornaments, and one or two colors of acrylic paints(probably red and green or white and red for christmas,if your coworkers celebrate hannukah you can use blue and white)....you take the caps off of the ornaments and squirt paint in them and you turn the ornaments to make the paint spread, then you turn them upside down and let the paint run out over night, then you put the cap back on the ornament ant you have a thoughtful and easy present!

it really is SIMPLE AND CHEAP!

I would go with the box of chocolates for your co-workers. I would even have baked some cookies put them in pretty cellophane with some ribbon....I always love getting homemade cookies from someone.

How about the x-mas balls that come one or two in a package at Dollar Gen. That will be nice enough.

a lot of times, when they're your colleagues, buying a gift that gets a laugh is the way to go.
