My son can pretty much support himself sitting with 1 small blanket infront of him to keep him from hitting his face on the plastic. He loves it actually he cant play with the toys yet but everytime we show him what to do he tries to.

My son can hold his head up very well and has now for 3 weeks. His legs are too short to touch the bottom yet. He can get the exersaucer to bounce but stil havent figured out how he does it.

The only time I put him in it is when he is wide awake and his head isnt moving around. I always keep my eye on him. His favorite toy right now is one of the bars that are about 18 inches hi with toys hanging from it. I lay him on his back and he kicks them so much that he turns himself 180 degrees and finally gets it with his hands also.

My son was 12 weeks when I put him in his exersaucer and he did just fine. When you put him in there just watch him and see how well he does sitting up and see how his head and neck does. If you feel ok about it then just let him stay in there and play.. Im sure he will be fine if you let him sit in it and play.. Congrats and Good luck..

Exersaucers are not recommend until a baby is at least 4 months old, and can support himself extremely well. If you have to put a blanket in front of him in order to keep him from slamming into the plastic, he is obviously not sitting up well enough on his own yet. Babies can go into "Bobblehead" mode really quickly, and I would not recommend an exersaucer quite yet. Maybe consider trying a swing with some toys attached, or a bouncer seat.

I don't know a specific answer to this question - it seems like you're aware of the obvious things and others have commented on them as well: making sure he can hold up his head for long periods of time, making sure his body is well-supported with rolled up towels and blankets. Other than that, I'd mostly be concerned about his not getting too tired out or wiggling into a potentially dangerous situation.
Your letter brings back memories. I don't know if this is the situation you're in, but for the longest time I kept trying out toys on my infant son that were a little too old for him, subconsciously thinking he might develop a little faster. He was such a helpless little blob - surely he must be getting bored without toys to play with! Perhaps this or that crib toy would stimulate him.
That period seemed to stretch forever. It felt like months went by where I couldn't put him down or even take a shower without hearing howls. It seemed that what he really wanted most wasn't toys but just to be held constantly.
That said, there was one thing he really liked that saved my sanity - an infant-to-toddler rocker made by Fisher-Price that had a bar of toys suspended over it. (URL for photo below.) That gave him things to swat at and pull on and was a fairly safe place to stow him while I did other things. Even better - sometimes he'd fall asleep in it!
Best of luck to you!

my son is five months old and plays in a walker. if im right an exersaucer is about the same, just more stuff to play with and it doesnt move around on the floor, just in a circle. i dotn think its to early i he canhold his head up and an be suported by a blnket. my son played in a walker from about 3.5 months on. itwill help him devolope co-ordination skills (hey i want that so i have to reach this way for it etc) and gives you time to get stuff done round the house, like dishes without worrying if hes going to roll off the couch or something. and its a lot less boring than a swing.

if he can support his neck he should be fine - just a little at a time. i'd put a little blanket in front and back. also, don't have his feet flat to the ground his back is not strong enough for that kind of support. have his feet barely touching or not touching at all. you'll know best, if he looks awkward don't do it. go with your gut feeling. or i always say if you second guess it it's probably a no!

My daughter was about that age when I started putting her in the Baby Einstein stationary play thing. She LOVED it. She would sit in there and grin so big and grab the toys and pull her self around and around. She could barely tippy toe the bottom of the saucer.

I think he is too young if he will hit is face on the plastic than he can not support himself good enough.
If he likes to sit up and see things I would try the Bumbo chair it is amazing my daughter loves it.

MY daughter has been in hers for 2 mos now and she is 5 mos. It depends on the baby and how well they have control. If he likes it then let him play and explore, just stay there because he will get tired fast. Isn't it cool to see them discover new toys.

Most physiotherapists would suggest you not put them in that early. Yes he may be able to hold himself up but it could effect their necks and backs by making them put to much pressure on their spines. You should wait until he is at least crawling that way you know the spine is mature.

I think my son was about that age when we gave him his exersaucer. We had to prop him up with a towel too. Really I'm glad we gave it to him when we did, because it wasn't any time at all before he wasn't that interested in it anymore. They outgrow stuff soooo quickly!
