I never rush. And I certainly never put my hand in. I've seen an elevator door crush a hand before. fractured some bones. not very pretty.

yes i feel like that all the time and when im at the store i always go to the door that says exit or enter i make sure i go to the proper door b/c im scared i'll get squashed

No, because they can't. If there's anything in between the doors, the doors open back up.
