you have to factor 5 into everything inside the () Multiplication lets you mulitiply a number by any other number even if they have a constant attached that is not the same. But addition or subtraction you can not do the same thing. So you can not add the terms inside after you factor the 5 into them so your final answer is

First: use distribution > take 5 and multiply it by everything in the parenthesis:

= 5(3x) - 5(4y) + 5(10)
= 15x - 20y + 50

distribute the 5: 15x-20y+50. you dont have an equals sign anywhere in the equation so that means you arent SOLVING the equation, you're just simplifying it as far as it goes. well thats as far as it goes, but if you are solving it, you would rewrite it into 2 equations, because you have 2 variables:
EQUATION 1: 15x-20y=-50----> 15x=20y-50-------> x=20/15y-50/15 (reduce the fractions)
EQUATION 2: you plug in the x into your original equation--> 15(20/15y-50/15)-20y=-50. solve for y, and then plug y into equation 1.
i know it seems hard its easier to explain in person...
