Honestly, most of the time I think we do it to show off to other females- competition more than trying to attract a man. They don't really care what color are nails are any way.
And if men didn't exist, I think a decent portion of us would still care how we look, but it would be in a different way. We'd still strive to look presentable, but with less stigma over breast size, lips, etc.

Good question. I think a lot of women get dressed up to attract someone else, but there definitely is a sense of self-pride when you are able to put on nice clothes and get all dolled up and look good. I do it 80% for myself, 20% for what others would think.

Hmmm.. not sure you posted in the correct area - I do not do anything to attract the opposite sex - and if men did not exist - ummm... I don't think it would change how I dress.

There's no excuse for looking sloppy. Improving your appearance with clothing, hair style, and makeup goes a long way to making yourself feel confident. People will respond to you more favorably because you'll be perceived as being neat and orderly. You're also telling them that you care about yourself. That translates to higher pay, more friends, and higher self-esteem.
You don't have to do it for sexual or dating reasons. Do it for the reasons I gave above.

We live in a society were we do very little for our own satisfaction. We, including myself, do many things to "fit in" and be accepted. Even our Emo friends do the same, although they think they aren't

Seriously, I think women get all dolled up to trump the next chick. Guys will pretty much not notice your True Religion jeans most of the time. The girls, however, will be riddled with envy or give you kudos cuz they have some TR's too. I think that's why we do it.

I think we do it for both to higher our self esteem and to attract the opposite sex but it just depends on the person!!!!

I doll myself up when i feel like it because i know it accentuates what's already naturally beautiful. And i dont give 2 s.hits about what men think anyway because im a LESBIAN.

I wear very little makeup, almost always wear my hair up in a pony tail... I want to be comfortable, screw everyone else lol
