is this SAT score good??

even though i am only in 8th grade, i took the SAT cuz of the John Hopkins Talent Search. I got my scores back today, and i was wondering how they compare to the score of an average student??

When they mail you your scores, there is usually a % next to your score (e.g. 88). That would mean that your score is above the score of 88% of the students who took the test.

that's great that you took the SAT with the John Hopkins Talent Search, i did too. Average highschool students usually get 1400-1700 SAT scores (remember, these are juniors/seniors, including the writing section that was recently added) ... and from what i can think of, in 8th grade, scores were usually under 1200. But then, when i took the SAT in 8th grade, it was only the 2 sections (math & verbal... writing not included). I got a 1070, and most other people i know that took it in 8th grade were in the 900-1100 range. Did you have to take the writing section? If you didn't, i'd say the average is in that 900-1100 range. If the writing section was included... i'm not sure but i'd guess 1200-1600.

Try looking at collegeboard.com, they might have the averages, or you could try Johns Hopkins' website.

FYI - If you want to get into a top 15 school you'd need a 1400 or higher.

If it's the same as in '97 when I took it, average is about 1000.
