First of all, a 1/2 gallon tank is not enough for any kind of fish. Bettas need at least a 5 gallon tank with a heater set to 78 degrees fahrenheit and a gentle filter. Did you change 50% or more of the water? If you did, there you go. EDIT: Also, you need betta water conditioner to put in the water, which makes the water safer for bettas and helps them to grow their slime coats.

Ick drops is the correct treatment for this fish fungus. And yes it could kill the fish if not treated immediately, the other fish may become infected too. All pet supply stores have this. Clean the tank thoroughly when the fish is better, they should be removed from the tank when you do this.

It's not Ich. Ich is a parasite, not a fungus, and is characterized ONLY by white spots on the fish.
Is it just the colour of the scales? Some bettas have white markings. Or did it just apear?
It may be fungus. Body fungus is usually white and fuzzy. Treat with Maracyn-2.
If the eye is cloudy, that is a gram negative bacterial infection. I forget the name of the medication to use, but your petstore will be able to tell you.
Many fish diseases are caused by inadequate care. THis may not be your case, but make sure that your betta's water is warm (76-80F), properly filtered, or if not, that you do water changes several times per week to get rid of ammonia and nitrites.

Sounds like ick to me. Buy stuff at Wal-Mart to clean the water and get rid of the ick. The stuff is cheap and easy to use. Just follow the directions. Good luck!!

If this is a new development, then he might have Ick. It's a fungus, I think. Does it look like little white spots on him that are spreading? They sell medicine at pet stores that will clear it up in a few days. Is he in a tank with other fish? Because it's contagious. Also, if you don't treat him, he might die.
I'm not sure what else it might be.

Actual Biological Disease: Rare:
Given a decent, stable environment and proper nutrition, actual infectious (bacteria, fungus) and parasitic (protozoans on up) diseases of Bettas are exceedingly rare. Almost always the appearance of aberrant behavior and biological disease is predicated on deficiencies in their system, foods and general care. The two most common agents of disease with this species are "ich" or white spot, and velvet (aka Oodinium), though there are others...

Betta's are beautiful fish.. I have 2 myself and often look up things to help them have a happier life..
Here are some sites I personally use..
This one is VERY good, http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_care.htm
It has a lot of pictures of diseases you can compare to your bettas, and treatment options :) I highly reccommend checking that out.

Try and keep his water really clean, that will help clear it up and prevent it from getting worse until you can get some medicine for him and even after keep his water very very clean.
