Suprisingly some can....
They're called Flying Squirrels. Here's some stuff i got on dem..if you wanna know n all....
"The flying squirrels are scientifically known as Pteromyini or Petauristini. There are 43 species in this tribe, the largest of which is the woolly flying squirrel. The term "flying" is somewhat of a misnomer, since flying squirrels are actually gliders incapable of true flight.
Flying squirrels travel through forests by gliding between trees. The distance traveled in one glide can range anywhere between 2 and 500 meters, depending on the species and elevation/topography at point of launch.
P.S. If you just wanted a straight answer : Yes some can, they are called "Flying Squirrels"!

While there are "flying squirrels", (they use skin flaps on thier limbs to glide), the squirrel you saw was probaly just a squirrel jumping onto your house, unless you live ing south America, since that's where most flying squirrels are found.

There is such a thing as a "flying squirrel". It has an extra layer of skin under its arms, like a wing, to allow it to fly or glide.

yep. Flying Squirrel. Actually a glider. I live in Illinois, and I caught(and released) one that was hanging on my closet door late one night. Small for a squirrel and it looked rather like a sugarglider...very cute.
