Not only do animals have better senses than we humans do, they are attuned to the energy of the cosmos and the spirit world. This is partly because some animals lived past lives as humans.
Ghosts are eternal. They also retain some of their human characteristics, like the desire to travel and explore. Sometimes, during their travels, ghosts look for something resembling their past life. It is during these times that they visit our homes. Don't be afraid, they mean no harm, they just want to remember what being alive was like. Next time your cat sees a spirit, say a few words of prayer for the dead.

What a sweet kitty you have!!! What you might want to do is get into your phone book, and call all of the nearby nursing homes to see if they participate in the animal therapy programs. I was a CNA, and have worked at many nursing homes. Some do allow the animals to come in on certain days, and some do not, and every one of them is different. The main thing you would need to know about before you took him from room-to-room is if the resident is allergic to cats. If he is this gentle around strangers as he is with you, then I see no need in even using the Soft Paws. Best of luck to you and your beautiful boy.

I have a dog that used to sit in front of a blank wall and just stare at it. I have a cat that will suddenly look towards the corner of the room or at the wall and stare for about fifteen or twenty seconds as if someone is talking to him and he's watching and listening. I sometimes get the feeling that maybe they can see our guardian angels and communicate with them. Who knows, there are a lot of mysteries in this world yet to be discovered.

I'm not exactly sure about them being able to see things we can't in daylight, I know they can see in night where as we can't, lol. Maybe they are just picking up things through their super-sensitive hearing, which all animals have Extremely good hearing.. Your cat could possibly be swatting at a gnat, or dust even, :P
I came across this site, maybe it'd be of some help,

I have two cats. They just showed up at my house one day. One is solid black and one is solid white with one blue eye and one green eye. I can always look at them and know if something is wrong. I was late for work one morning and my black cat kept jumping on my counter, spilling my coffee, ect. Then I could not find my keys. I had left them on the counter. After awhile my white cat carried them to me in his mouth. When I got down the street there was a really bad accident. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. But my white cat is very protective, he's not playful or affectionate he just kinda sits around. When my boyfriend and I argue and it is getting bad the cat just walks into the room and stares at him. It makes my boyfriend so uncomfortable he leaves the room. He always says he feels like the cat knows something he doesn't. I know this sounds weird but I think they do know something we don't.

I have seen cats and dogs react to spirits I have also seen, an react to some that I didn't see. No one needs to have died in a house, for new spirits to enter it, and be seen by any cats or dogs in there. None need be "crazy". Here is a case where a crazy friend of mine deliberately goaded police to kill him. Then he went home in spirit and in chaos to his dogs in his front yard who saw him newly dead and howled.

Dogs in particular do not have extremely good eyesight, especially for things that are far away. Their eyesight is based primarilly on movement and if something in your yard is slightly different than what it was yesterday, they're of course going to assume its a giant pink elephant and go nuts.

I think they can. My two cats do the came thing too. They will put thier ears back and look up or sometimes find something to follow. Sometimes they freak out and just run out of the room. Pretty freaky huh?

You have to remember that dogs and cats also have very excellent hearing. They may have heard something that you didn't and were just responding to that. But who knows? Maybe they do see things that we can't. How would we ever know for sure?
