Go to this site & enter the IP address :

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp?siteid=361&channelid=P99C361S570N0B142A1D219E0000V100&clickid=1000000000

Then contact the provider listed...they usually have an e-mail address called " abuse@ something.something " especially for these types of complaints.

You may then also file an official report with their local police authority. Any logs you have of the hacking attempt should also be sent.

For what it's worth ... you are not alone. I send an average of 3 internet abuse reports per week as a result of people trying to hack into my system.

I guess that the attack is a general one, in which case forget it. You will never find out who they are or where they live. There are millions of IP addresses used in scams and spams. Most of them belong to innocent people who have no idea that their computers are being used. You will never get to the real scammers or spammers.

On the other hand, if you believe that someone is targeting you specifically, go to http://www.webyield.net/domainquery.html and enter the IP address in the Resolve IP Address section. This will give you all sorts of stuff including the domain name (the www.somebody.com) of the owner of that IP address and their country of origin. Once you have the domain name you can look up the owners details by going to www.whois.net. Chances are that you will get only the details of your attackers Internet Service Providor.

The best thing you can do is turn on a firewall, either the one which comes with your operating system (Windows XP?) or the one which comes with your anti virus checker. If you don't have aniti virus software then please do buy one.

You could lookup the provider that owns the block of IP's and go to their site or lookup their admin contact and "report Abuse".

That said, that very rarely does anything, and even furhter, it is likely the actual attacker was using that address via a proxy or compromised machine.

Unless there was a serious crime comitted, I'd say forget it, and use it as a lesson to secure your machine for the future.

In any case www.dnsstuff.com will give you a little info abou thte ip address.

Type their IP address into the website below. It will show you a visual map of the ISPs location. The person that connects to that ISP is probably in the same general area.

go to google and type in trace IP address. That will bring up several websites that will allow you to find out an address's location.

the best way to go about this is by contacting your internet service provider.
