I was wondering how I will be paid. I got a job as a data transciber and I have a Bachelor's degree, which I know automatically allows me to start at a higher level. I think the max level I could start out as is G4. Does anyone know how I can figure this out? I don't go in to do paperwork for a couple weeks!

Also, does anyone know if their temporary positions would allow me to take 2 weeks off unpaid. My husband is coming back from Iraq for 2 weeks and I need that time off. Does the IRS make you sign a contract or what is the deal?

Hey Girl. First of all, congratulations. Second, I know it's awkward but you should try to ask whoever hired you at least some of these questions; maybe be patient about your pay (cuz hey, you're gonna get paid one way or another and you already accepted the job) but at least ask them what to do about this upcoming 2 weeks that you want. Just give them a call. I'm sure they will be sympathetic. Just start out expecting the least and hope they give you all the time off that you want. P.S. There should be a paychart for government jobs online somewhere, since it is a standard pay chart for all govt jobs.

as much as the gs system strives to be equal and even, it isn't. it varies by agency, location, education level, and so on. so i don't think anyone will be able to tell you what you're going to get paid.

as far as the leave issue goes, you're not entitled to family leave until you've been on the job for 12 months, i believe. it'll be a "work it out with your supervisor" situation. might be tough, because if the irs hired you as a temp in december, i'm pretty sure they're counting on you being there every day between now and may 1.
