Such a sensitive area that irritation is pretty much unavoidable. I'd say get a professional wax by a reputable spa/salon, they usually know what they are doing and can minimize irritation (still hurts like hell though! eek!) If you are going to do it yourself, make sure it's a new razor, and use a shaving gel meant for ladies private area (no soap...won't lubricate the blade enough). I think it's probably going to be a trial and error situation, since everyone's skin has different tolerance to shaving. Careful with that razor and good luck!

I do have to say that waxing is your best option. If you would like to give the shaving another shot, try exfoliating prior to shaving. That will remove all the dead skin and help to eliminate irritation and ingrown hairs. Also use a shaving gel for sensitive skin and a good razor. Don't use disposable ones. There is a product called Tend skin that can be applied after to avoid razor burn and ingrown hairs. It does sting when applied but it helps. If all else fails just go get waxed!

You can not avoid the irritation. After shaving you may feel itchy , too. Its because the hairs are trying to grow again. After two days of itching you will be relieved,... oh it's again time for shaving :(... Good Luck ;)

Use an electric daily. Blade razors actually scrape the skin and soaps or creams act as irritants. Depilatories have harsh chemicals like lie.
Razors cut the shaft of the hair at an angle. The itch is that pointy hair poking the skin. The electric whacks it off square, or blunt.
Get a friend like me to get those places you can't see or reach. :)

Forget shaving and get a Brazilian wax. It will last longer and feel great. Bikini Zone might help. Irritations are inevitable though. No tight panties. No perfumed creams of powders. and cotton underware is always safer.

The first time, it'll be really itchy. You might wanna put Vaseline or baby powder (not perfumed). After a while, it'll stop itching so much. However, it helps when you don't wear tight underwear for the first couple of days. Happy Shaving!

This sounds weird, but for me shaving cream doesn't work so I use conditioner (for hair) and it makes it smoothe with no irritation. And a new razor.
