It was one Christmas when my Grandma was in the hospital. She was in deteriorating health but stable. Then the hospital called Christmas afternoon and told us we should come down right away because she had taken a turn for the worst. Our family rushed over and spent the rest of the day by her side. Luckily, she pulled through and was with us for several more months. That was the absolute worst Christmas I've ever had.

The year my divorce was final in early December. I spent Christmas alone washing clothes at the laundromat. My family blamed me for my choice to leave my marriage so I was basically ostracized. I had no friends or family around to celebrate with. A very bad Christmas indeed.

David your loss brings tears to my eyes. Friends of ours also lost their son on a Christmas Eve. He was 8 yrs old and died from a grand maul seizure. I'm always amazed by the strength of people who go on after tragedies like that. Blessings and peace to you and your family.

Once I got really really sick, and my boyfriend (who I lived with) decided to go do his own thing at Christmas. He left me by myself (I shouldn't have been). That really sucked. But my mom came anyway, so all worked out. Needless to say, that relationship ended quickly. But other than that, most of my Christmases have been not too shabby. And you? Merry Christmas!

aw Gawd, David...I'm so sorry. I was ready to regale you all with my tale of a dreadful Christmas spent curled up with four bottles of cheap champagne and a Stephen King novel, but now...
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I wish you and your family peace.
