I just moved into a new apartment. I brought the wonderful shower head from my last place with me - one of those rainfall ones. The problem is that the shower arm comes out of the wall at about my head level (and I'm 5' 2"). Since I'm renting, I really don't want to replace the pipe that goes into the wall for fear of totally jacking it up. The shower head came with one of those S pipes, but all that really does is make the head come out further from the wall - it doesn't make it any taller. Any suggestions? Are there special pipes you can buy to bring the ding dang head up higher? I practically ripped the stupid shower pipe out of the wall last night in frustration.

You can buy an adjustable extension arm that goes between your new shower head and the old connector out of the wall, actually it's easier to find the entire setup in one unit so you may have to buy a new shower head to get the whole thing to work together. I am 6'3" so I know what a problem that is!!!
Below is a link to one I found at homedepot.com that is adjustable, it should work for you and it's only $52 for the entire setup.

Before you get any further into this, you should install it where it is now just to see if you are happy with the pressure. If you have 1/2 inch supply line or 3/8" the pressure from that big shower head will probably be very poor. The water may not even come out of all the holes. Good luck.

Home Depot sells an adjustable shower arm extender--- so you screw this thing onto your existing plumbing, and then screw your shower head onto it.
It is adjustable and raises the height of your shower head up to 9 inches.
I got one of these for my place because I have your exact situation, except I'm 6'2". I can't imagine how low your shower head must be! Would hit me in the chest.

The wall pipe is a tapered pipe thread, so you can unscrew the chrome pipe that's coming out of the wall, and replace it with a 'nipple' which is a short piece of galvanized, black, or brass pipe. then, screw on an elbow, and another piece of pipe to go straight up. At the top, use another elbow to come back straight out, and attach the chrome wall tube. You'll be dancing in the rain again!

you can go to Home Depot and get a couple of 90 degree elbows and some small extensions, make sure you use some "teflon tape" on the joints to avoid leaks, and don't tighten the pipe too much as it could crack and break.

This particular one will add 9" without changing pressure. Pretty easy to install, and uses standard shower heads.

Go to your local Hardware store and purchase a shower arm that is adjustable for the hight that you need . Sounds like your landlord is a do it yourselfer you may want to get the place inspected by pros . to insure your safety.Good luck!
