For one, Vanessa Williams was Miss America, and Tara is Miss U.S.A. The two pageants have different sets of rules regarding what is appropriate.
Additionally, Vanessa had unquestionably broken the rules, and there was firm proof that she had lied to the producers about the fact that she had previously posed nude.
Tara has been misbehaving, but didn't lie in advance of the pageant, so they're giving her the opportunity to straighten up...As far as I'm concerned, this is a better role model than someone who has always only done good things...To show young women that they can change their ways and get back onto the right track is a good thing.

Times are different. I think if Vanessa won today they would not have made as big a deal of it as they did then. Besides losing that friggin crown was probably the best thing that ever happened to her. She probably is the most successful of any other Miss America winner.

I believe Tara broke rules also and even worse then Vanessa
It is illegal for a 20year old to consume alcohol and snort cocaine
as the rumors go.....
