Prostitution is legal in many parts of the world such as the European Union and many countries in South American to name a few.

The United Nations has called for Work Place human rights for sex workers. With Internet sights in the United States such as Big Doggie Com and The Erotic Review Com serving an estimated 20,000 full time prostitutes.

Shouldn’t these people be granted basic rights as small businesspersons and protection under the law?

Yes.

Although I believe that sexual acts between consenting adults is nobodys business, when the act includes the exchange of currency, then there is the issue of quality control.

Local, state or federal government should step in to legalize prostitution and I say that for a number of reasons.

1. The business could be regulated, which includes periodic health reports, licensing and retirement plans as well as a source of tax revenue (add it to the list of "sin tax" we already have with alcohol and tobacco). It would keep women off the street and in a private, secure place.

2. licensed brothels would eliminate (or. at best, reduce) the violent "pimp" who beats women into service and keeps most of the profits for himself.

3. reducing the stigma and illegality of prostitution most likely would reduce sexual crimes against women. The plain fact is, prostitution has been around since there has been men and women. Sex is a commodity like anything else that can be sold.

I am sure that folks would just love the kind of "quality control" that the gov't would bring to this "industry." I am sure there would be time limits, number limits etc. They would establish a minimum wage. A white-gloved inspector would come on a regular basis to inspect. They would probably be required to sleep with them to make sure that everything is OK. I recently saw a documentary on restaurant inspectors in NYC. They say that to pass, a restaurant gets 28 points before a clean up violation is documented. This one had 147 pts! And that gets them 3 more attempts to clean up over the next 6-9 months!

We could even have the prostitutes have to get licensed & take tests (we will keep it to written tests not the other kind), and continueing education classes just like doctors & insurance professionals. They can buy TV & radio ads.

Plus all the other perks that others have mentioned like, guilt free adultery. Since your spouse doesnt like it in a certain possition, pay someone who does! Then its not even considered adultery because you didnt buy her dinner!

It is a rediculous notion to even entertain. Are there simply not enough diseases out there for anyone? Whoopdidoo that a few ever so far-advanced South American countries & European Union allow women to sell themselves! I know how much we look to them for all types of modern advancements like t-shirts manufactured from Chile that we rely so much on. Since when was the US in a race to socialy catch up with these countries that dont even use deoderant?

I guess it is right what they say, "stand for nothing & fall for everything"

prostitution should be illegal b/c it promotes the spread of stds, plus it is morally wrong. way too many people cheat within their marriages w/ prostitutes hoping to get away w/ it. why promote infidelity? isn't the world screwed up enough? also, it makes women look bad, since most prostitues are women. and it cheapens the act of sex. makes it dirty. so why, given all these negative attributes, would anyone want to legalize prostitution?

believe it or not i do think that it should be legal because of the fact that sometimes you might want to be with someone else. what i mean is that if you have a gf/bf and you want to be with someone else that wants to do different things then i think that you should. now if you are one of those type of people that dont want to go through the whole process of taking someone out and buying them stuff just to sleep with them this would work out. just pay the money and do your thing and then be done with it. you dont have to look back and feel guilty cuz that person decided to live the life of a prostitute.

Yes, because it will give more protection to the women who are in that 'work'; they wont have to second-thought going to the police or getting medical care or the like

also, safer sex would be practiced more, and it could be far better regulated for numerous things including generating income for public coffers

as George Carlin said- "selling is legal. f*ckin is legal. whyisnt selling f*cking legal?"

In many places, prostitution isn't illegal, its soliciting in a public place for, and living off the avails of, that is illegal.

But No. It should not be illegal to sell something that is perfectly legal to give away for free.

I would like to see it legalized so we can protect the prostitutes and their clients from disease and injury. Ask the government can then tax the business and get more revenue

I think so. Just like the legalization of marijuana if it's legal then it can be federally mandated.
