Hermann Goering flew an Albatros D III during WWI. It was not however black; it was green.

As for the strafing incident, there is a famous account after the war when Goering threatened to strafe the town of Darmstadt which was rebelling at the time.

There was a squadron of RNAS planes that was painted black. They were Sopwith Triplanes which went into service before the Fokker Dr 1. The Dr 1 was actually a copy of the Sopwith. Few Sopwith Triplanes were used by the RAF, but the Naval squadrons did use them. The best known RNAS ace was Ray Collishaw, a Canadian who was credited with 62 planes shot down.
