I want to be sipping rum & cokes on the sand and smoking a huge fatty when I'm that old ... no bills ... live in a hut on the beach or something ... medicate myself ... lol ... and just chill everyday ... eat, drink, take naps ... until one day I don't wake up ... sounds good to me ... my kids can join me if they want ... I'll need somebody to go to the store to get my munchies ... !

I work in one of these so called awful places and it is not as bad as you may think. I thought the same thing until I started working in one. The people in these homes are so loved and receive so much care and attention it makes me jealous. You need to realize that these people, some of them don't even know where they are but they do know that they are cared for. It is not something that you want to think about when your young but know that if you find the right place you can be happy. Trust your family will love you enough to make the right choice for you when the time comes.

No way! I have told my kids that if I cannot take care of myself, I do not wish to live. Some of the people in those homes should have been let go years ago. It's sad that some people cannot let go when it is time. My dad had a stroke and it makes me sad every time I see him. He uses a walker and has a difficult time talking, but his mind is still great. I have told my mom that if he has another one, she should think about not calling 911 and just let him go peacefully. I don't think he would want to live in any worse shape than he is in now.

I wouldn't mind being in a home if my mind was gone. Afterall, every day is a new day! I've worked in enough of them to know that some people adjust to homes just fine; they have social lives and enjoy the company. They are not all suffering. Others, just lay in bed and rot. It's a shame. I'm with you, though. I'd rather be gone than be sick and alone and that's what I plan to do...but not until I'm well over 80. Godloveya.

It is funny that you ask this question. My mom and I were discussing this just the other day. She is 65 and a very active person. She still holds 2 jobs ( not that she needs to) She stated that in a good nursing home, she would have friends to keep her attention off of herself. It is funny how nursing homes got such bad names. The ones I have seen were very nice with a caring staff. God forbid that it be necessary to put her there, I would because these are her wishes.
As for me what will be will be.

I want to be alive and healthy. I don't like being in an old folks home. If I am a burden to anyone, I'd rather die.

If it bothers you so much, go get a job at a nursing home and help them out. Or if you have a good job, go volunteer for a few days. Maybe it will cheer you up alittle, I know you will be doing a world of good to the dear ol' folks there.

I hope to be living with the man i grow old with. I do not want to have to go love with my kids and be a burden on them though.
