Things happen to people, not just good people or "bad" people. It's all part of our life experience... and if things seem really tough, think of it as a sort of divine test of character. Because what ultimately defines you is how you handle the bad times over the good, because you come out of those times having grown as a person.
I don't believe there is such thing as a "bad" person. Our perception of people is often skewed. People make decisions based on THEIR experience, as we do ours, and sometimes that affects how we percieve their character. Ultimately, they still lead lives, they still have to deal with the same trials and tribulations as "good" people (or so percieved) in which their decisions will have good or poor consequences...or the reward you don't think they deserve.

you can't differentiate between certain types of people bad things happen equally to all of us as well as good things. There is no answer to this question because things happen you can't exactly say that an event is bad, good, or evil, or holy it is just something that happens. We as humans put labels on things but who is to say what is bad or good, if you were to die would that be a good or bad thing you might think bad, but we all die so I'd say it was a good thing. Also the so called bad person isn't held subject to the morals and values that the so called good people are that's why the villain is always the Victor and the hero falls to the wayside.

Bad things is not just happening for good people , it happens to all of us if there is no bad things we'll never know whats the good ones!! and there is no good and bad people ,everyone has a very good part inside but environment and people surround us plays a big role that shows the bad part sometimes but in the end we find some help or learning to show the beautiful part again :)

The answers quite simple really. If bad things couldn't happen to good people, then there could not be a world where we have free will. If every time some one picked up a baseball bat to play baseball it worked fine, but when you lifted it to hit someone it disappears, then you wouldn't be free to make your own decisions. What if every time you opened your mouth to say an insult, the air that carriers sound disappears, leaving your insult unheard? If bad people couldn't choose to be bad because the universe wouldn't allow it, we'd just be puppets doing the only thing we could do, be good. As far as natural events (cancer, tornadoes), if bad things only happened to bad people and good things only happen to good people, then every one would be forced to be good. At gun point. God wanted a world where each of us was truly free to decide our own destinies. When bad things happen to good people, it is always ruff, but there's no way we could be anything but puppets without it.

Because life is random, there is no such thing as fate or pre-ordained plan, bad things happen to ALL people because of coincidence, Murphy's Law, and random acts of nature and people.
Well Murphy's Law is just the more humorous side to it, but it does have underlying truth to it. When the tectonic plates crash into each other and cause human calamities, are they worried about who's good and bad? Don't make me laugh.
To think that good people are protected or somehow immune to the laws of nature is not logical or rational. If you start believing in fate, Karma and pre-ordained plans, then you're reverted to superstitious CAVE MAN logic....don't do it.

Sometimes even very good people just happen to leave a towel at the top of the stairs where it can be tripped over.
Nothing short of divine protection, if you believe in it, can keep you totally safe. And whateverGod you believe in, He's got more important things to do than handle every bad thing that happens to us. It's sheer vanity that makes us think we are deserving of that direct intervention.

For clarification, all kinds of things happen to ALL people; good, bad and otherwise. I don't know what your spiritual beliefs are, but as I see it (and I'm not a theologian nor a physicist), once the laws of physics were set in motion, there was no acting against them - unless, of course, you believe stories like Moses parting the water.
What I'm saying is that while you or I may "take control" of our lives - as far as decision making - there are a million other factors (random or otherwise) - acting on us or against us; things we cannot forsee.
Thus, no matter what we do, no matter how "good" or "bad" we are, there are things that may occur that seem to have NO connection to our lives, our morals, our beliefs, our actions, etc., etc.
THAT is why "bad things happen to good people" and "good things happen to bad people."
What "comes back around" to you is NOT always a result of what you've done, who you are, or what you believe.
Does that make sense?

I think there are many reasons why. One, to teach us humility (as in, no matter how great we are, we can still be brought low). Two, to teach us compassion for others who are suffering. If you've never experienced the dark side of life, how can you ever relate to those people who DO go through tough times? And third, to teach us to appreciate life. If you've never had anything bad happen to you ever, how can you ever appreciate the GOOD times?
Who was it that said that if something wasn't big enough to destroy you, it would ultimately do you good... like building up muscles. If all you ever did at the gym was lift one pound, sure it'd be easy. But would you be strong? Heck no.
There are many reasons. Here are just some.
