Dodgers management is more geared towards winning by speed, contact, moving runners over, and clutch hitting to score runs. The formula worked well enough last year, but I agree, if the Dodgers are serious about going deep into the playoffs, they need a big bat.

I think you answered your own question. If it's not a hitters ball park then why sign a power hitter that will hit a ton of fly balls to the warning track?
The Dodgers philosophy is to get guys that can get on and produce runs in that park. Hence the signing of Pierre.
Nomar, Kent , and Gonzalez will hit most of the home runs on the road like most Dodgers do and Piazza did.

Right now Nomar is the Dodgers' best power hitter. He has always hit for average, been good for 20 homers and 80+ RBI. They need two more just like him, that's all. Take comfort in the fact that pitching wins games. If the Dodgers can manufacture a couple of runs with the rest of their order, it will be up to Nomar to get the timely hits to drive them in.

The thing right now though, is that we don't need any power we have good hitters who can score runs and manufacture runs. Also like you said the pitching is magnificent. Drew was supposed to be that power guy, but he didn't come thru and now he is not here. Kent if healthy should hit about 22 to 25. I can't believe that the Dodgers had a shot at Vlademir Guerrero but they didn't get him only because they were also getting a new owner and Vlade opted to go to the Angels, he would have been our power hitter.

Judging by the moves that Ned Colletti has made since taking over - namely, giving big bucks to no-power guys like Juan Pierre instead of looking for someone who might actually hit for power and help the team - it could be a while.
Colletti is supposed to be an "old school" guy who doesn't believe in things like OPS, the value of power over speed, or anything else that might be associated as being too stats-driven. That's why Bill Plaschke writes him love letters in his newspaper column every couple of weeks.
Seriously, with the current front office, I wouldn't hold my breath. They've yet to realize that they need more than just pitching to win in that stadium.
Just a note about the comment below regarding Pierre - He's not a guy who "gets on base" - look at his OBP the last couple of years. He's a guy who gets a fat contract for running fast, despite the fact that he's not at all productive. Hard to steal bases and score runs if you can't get on base.

Be patient. I am a Die Hard fan too. I'm loving the way they look right now, but Ned Colletti will get a big bat by the time the season starts. They have arguably the best pitching staff in baseball and plenty of guys who will get on base consistently and a lot of young prospects. Maybe trade Penny and a prospect for a Pat Burrell type player. Or even A. Jones who will be a free agent next season... But just be patient and have faith in Colletti who already has proven himself in making the team better!!!
GO DODOGERS!!

No, because the Dodgers are a bunch of traitors to Brooklyn who get two runners tagged out at home in one play in the playoffs.
