Being raised in an environment where the focal point was catering to addiction would definitely affect one's development in an adverse way. Just your being aware of this connection is the first step to overcoming the negative environment in which you were raised. There are plenty of people who have overcome circumstances as bad as yours and gone on to lead fulfilling productive lives. Your local library would have plenty of biographies of such people. Our lives are made up by the choices we make. Decide what you want to do with your life and then make good choices that will lead you to your goal. Don't be afraid to enlist the help of others in achieving your goal. I don't know what your belief system is but for many people recognizing a higher power or God who loves one unconditionally is a source of tremendous strength. You may want to check this out. There's an old expression that states,"where there is a will, there is a way."

If you want to blame your problems on your childhood, go ahead. But the reason you are screwed up is because you are making bad choices in your life and you've accepted the bad as the only choice there is. There are thousands of examples of people who have it much worse than you could ever imagine and have accomplished amazing things. If and when you decide, seriously decide that you will be a better person, that you will educate yourself and follow the right path, one where you recognize that good character is as important as any amount of money, then you won't need to bother with questions like this. Good Luck.

Although we are partially a product of our environment as you grow older you become responsible for your actions and behaviors. You may have grown up in a crack house environment but that doesn't mean you have to end up living your life the same way.

Definitely. You don't have the advantages others have had. You can rise above it but it will take more determination. You can probably go to college for free and that is worth thousands so do it.
