So when you're getting your a** kicked, you just stand there and take it?
Good plan. Let's run that up a flag pole and see who salutes!

Attempting to police other countries and run them as satellite colonies isn't the same as diplomatically negotiating with them. Making a reasonable attempt at peaceful rational discussion with world leaders is preferable to bombing the everloving sh!t out of poor brown people and creating hundreds of thousands of new Osamas every day.

sometimes things do need to be both ways. its wrong when we destroy opium and marijuana crops in other countries (especially when we permadently damage the soil.) its also not good when we keep entering wars.
but every person, group, and nation needs allies. maybe we wouldn't be attacked and targeted by terrorists if someone would come to our aid.
think about it like how we treat people around us, you don't tell your friends how to live their lives, you don't start fights with everyone around you that you disagree with, you try to keep fighting down to a minimum, but you still have friends and allies.

Why do "conservatives" (ahem!!!) lump all liberals into one box? You need to realize that there as many differences of opinion among politicos as there are politicos! Not all conservatives agree with each other, just as liberals don't agree with each other. Sometimes I am "liberal" and sometimes "conservative" and I have NEVER said anything like what you claim that the "liberal" side of me has. Isolationism doesn't work in a modern world, and it hasn't worked for hundreds of years. Don't speak for others if you don't want them speaking for you - you might not like what you found out that "you" said!

You don't have to be involved in the internal aspects of a country to be friends.
Look at France (and don't go all conservative saying they're enemies). They left NATO, and we remained allies with them. We don't try to run things in their country and we still get along. It's okay to disagree; actually it's expected. Countries that march lockstep with us make us look like the Soviet Union did during the Cold War.
Look at our best allies and you'll find that they all are very independent (Canada, UK, Germany, Japan). Look at our shaky ones (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan) and you'll see us trying to exert a little too much control.

There's no contradiction here.
America should not invade other nations and try to impose our will on them.
We should use diplomacy to stay on good terms with countries that may not be our best friends.
