Just remember that they are uneducated people who are afraid of their own shadow. Remember that what goes around comes around. Remember that they haven't been taught any better and have been conditioned not to listen to anything that doesn't come from their small little world.
Ignore it and be the better person, teach your children that everyone, regardless of skin color, religion, ethnicity, background or financial status is all the same. We can only do it one at a time, we can do it with our children.

Be the best person you can be at all times and encourage the same from others. I have found this to be true both to fighting generalized racism and other discrimination. Eventually those people who count for anything will notice you for it. Also remember that the majority of people do not think in racist terms and dislike those who do. I am white: To those other while people out there who somehow find it appropriate to be outwardly racist, you are a disgrace to everyone and you represent your race poorly. There comes a time to grow up!

This is a very good question. Everywhere I look is racism I hear it on the radio I see it on the television though it seems the racism that is so obvious to me is ignored by others. I speak of the true racism of the preferential treatment given to black people by many universities many cities and states and the federal government.
I tell as many people that will listen that this racism must end immediately.

The only person you can be responsible for is yourself. You can't change other people. Just remember that they're the narrow-minded ones and eventually karma will get to them. Continue to be a good person and good things will come to you. Smile at your enemies. Getting down to their level will only make things worse.
Good luck and I'm sorry people are so mindless sometimes.

I think the best solution is to ignore. lashing out at a person who makes comments like that only feeds their anger/hatred/ignorance. the best way to offend those people is to not give them the pleasure of even acknowledging their existence.

Just remember to yourself you are above them. Dont say anything back as you would be just as bad. If it gets to extreme, maybe gathering a little 'evidence' and taking it to your local police station and ask them to look into it.
Good Luck
