That's up to the people of Northern Ireland. At present their government are incapable of doing anything except behaving like children, so for now things will have to stay as they are.
My opinion is it doesn't really matter - the UK and Ireland are pretty similar anyway.

No geographicly it makes sense for it to belong to Ireland.
United Kingdom is the British Isles which are England, Scotland, Wales, and the surounding Islands.
Ireland is a separate country.
Just because English is the first language does not make it the same country.

It is, but I believe it shouldnt have been.
The troubles in northern ireland are similar to those in sri lanka. Colonialism (that is britain spreading its wings all over the world), has led to long term problems in many countries. Mainly because the colonial powers so often have no regard for local customs an cultural identity.
In Ireland for example, they renamed all of the cities using anglicised names, and often the soldiers manning roadblocks would rub it in, by saying things like, where are you headed? Derry. What was that? Derry. Oh, you mean Londonderry. No, I mean Derry. Beating ensues.
Anywhere you see people behaving like terrorists, you can usually presume that they have been shouting for justice for some time without reward, following which they see no alternative but to make even louder noises. I am not condoning terrorist activity, but I am condemning the behaviour of politician who try to claim the moral high ground when it is often their insensitivity, arrogance, and intransigence that causes these things to escalate.

No. It should be treated as a separate nation much like we do with the Indian tribes throughout the U.S..It's almost like saying "shouldn't Canada be part of the U.S.? People like a independence, autonomy, and the right to decide where their identity through their culture and history.
