I like cats. Dogs love you too easily. Cats make you earn their respect and then, possibly, their love.

I am a total dog lover, the only use I ever had for cats were in our stable to take care of mice. But I would never have a house cat, it is way too unhealthy. Not mention a dog is way more loyal, loving, obedient, intelligent, versatile and the best friend you could ever have. You can not walk or play ball with a cat. Cats do not protect you like a dog does, and and cats have no clue only about themselves. Dogs care about you and will do anything for you. I have a year old yellow Labrador Retriever and a Pit Bull I adopted when my brother died. I also have horses.

Me i really like dogs I have five. To me dogs are loyal, even though sometimes they destroy everything in sight. They make better guards than cats, they are really playful with children. To me cats are somewhat lazy they sleep whole day, but they do clean themselves so you dont have to wet yourself trying to give them a bath, and they are kinda gentle around kids, they dont really smell as bad as a dog or leave fur all over the house. There are really both good and bad to both having a cat an a dog but my opinion remains the same i love dogs.

I have both 1 dog and 3 cats in my family so I love both but, I do seem to be a little more fond of my cats.

:) Birds. Specifically, Macaws.

My argument is as follows:

Cats, they're cool. Really. Fluffy, cuddly, independent, you don't have to walk them or take them outside. They're great. But, they have attitudes, quite similar to that of a pissed off Grandma. If they're mad, you'll hear about it until they're on to their next drama. Then, there's also the issue of the "presents" they like to leave. Like, for instance the mouse I found lying on the floor between Princess Fi-Fi's paws, squeaking for mercy. I had to rescue that poor thing, and she was more than a little pissed at me for weeks. Cats are cool, but they're just not nearly as interesting as...

Dogs. Dogs are great in a lot of different ways. Dogs have more intelligence than cats in that they can work (I happen to also run a search and rescue organization who employs the use of trailing dogs, cadaver dogs, airscent dogs, etc.). Those dogs are happy to be working, and fufill a great need for the community. But, then there's the issue of taking them outside, usually at THE most inopportune times. Like, say, just after you get out of the shower and put your jammies on. And it's snowing outside. That, is just not my idea of a good time. But, you do have the added benefit of having a protective companion in the home with you, and that's kind of cool. They can fetch newspapers, balls, play with toys, and they'll love you, pretty much no matter how awful your day has been or how bad you screwed up, but...

Birds, are far superior to both cats AND dogs. And, I'll tell you why. First, they can talk to you. My Macaw, Rio is my best friend. He tells me what's on his mind, I can tell him what's on mine, and he's just way cool. I can cuddle him, just like a cat or dog, I can take him with me whereever I go (except the grocery store, we tried that and they didn't buy the "seeing eye bird" excuse), and we always get a crowd of people asking questions about him, which of course is awesome because in his majestic coolness, people are drawn to him, and then are curious enough to want to be educated on the ins and outs of bird ownership and what all he can do. When he's mad, he swears. When he's happy, he sings. (sometimes it's rap, sometimes it's you are my sunshine...) And, the most important part of our relationship is that it's give and take. You don't ever just get to have a bird, and keep a bird. You will always work hard, be challenged every single day, and earn the respect and trust that is a major two way street.

I'll probably never own my own dog again. I do have Princess Fi-Fi, our Persian, but she's made it clear that she owns me. With Rio, it's a two way street. He's a 5 year old child, with a can-opener attached to his face. I love him as dearly as I do my own children!

So...Yeah. That's my final answer.

Play outside with a dog

I like them both but only have cats. I live in an apartment and work 12 hour shifts. I think dogs need more contact with their owners than cats.

I'd choose a dog because they can take care of themselves while you are away and they stay close to home when they are out of the fence. Cats can get ran over easier than a dog because generally they are smaller than most dogs. If a dog gets lost, it will probably find its way back because of its keen sense of smell.

Thye're both unique and lovable in their own ways. Dogs are much easier to figure out then cats though.

I own both and if I had to give up one or the other, I couldn't do it.

I do like how my dogs can go almost everywhere with me. Although I have a friend who's cat goes a lot of places with her. It's so funny to see Roy just lounging on the front dash of the truck on his way to yet another camping weekend...

hi i have a pet dog(a westie) and i could never swap him for a cat. i dont think i shall ever own a cat. you never really know where they are. dogs are very loyal and loving and will always be by your side. they know what you are feeling too like if you are ill they will come and comfort you. cats have sharp claws that can hurt and in my experience arnt as friendly( i know alot of cats are though so dont get me wrong)
