Bill Gates has the most money now and so is currently the richest man in the world in terms of monetary wealth, but he won't die that way. He is giving the vast amount of his fortune and estate away to charity. His kid won't get a huge inheritance, either.
He may not die the wealthiest man, but through his philanthropic choices, he's certainly richer.
Reminds me of the lyrics to the song "Satisfied Mind":
How many times have you heard someone say,
"If I had his money, I would do things my way."
How little they know, that it's so hard to find
