I got the cotton crib sheets that match the baby's nursery set. I have washed them 2 times with Dreft on warm wash/ cold rinse and gentle tumble dry - but they still aren't soft and comfy. I know you are not supposed to use fabric softener because it can be irritating to newborn skin.... does anyone know what I can do to softren up these sheets?

Try putting 1/2 cup of baking soda in the water.

Cotton gets softer as the fibers break, which is why you jeans are most comfortable right before they wear out. If you're not averse to them fading a bit, you might try putting them on a rougher tumble in the dryer, or even washing them on a hot cycle once.

That's probably not the odor of the dye, that's the odor of rancid fabric softeners or the formaldehyde no-iron treatment. If repeated washing does not remove the smell, the sheets have a manufacturing defect and should be returned to the store where you bought them for a full refund or replacement with non-defective sheets.

Depends on the thread count of the sheets, anything less than 200 and they're just never gonna be soft! Go with the jersey sheets, they're so soft and comfy, and they come in all colors.

If you want REALLY soft crib sheets, go to Pottery Barn Kids and get the chamois crib sheets. They are about $30.00 each but entirely worth it.

Use the fabric softener in one load and then wash them again with the Dreft.

No! Don't add softner to the baby's sheets! It reduces flame retardance! Just buy some new sheets. Flannel are comfy!

use a small amt of snuggle fabric softener. it rinses out well enough that it shouldn't bother your baby's skin. they make softener for delicate skin too. try that
