Pets give people unconditional love and they accept you for who you are no matter what. And that is a great feeling. Animals let people be them, without any falseness that we seem to put on for other humans. They are also a great source of companionship and a honest and open one.
There also service dogs that give people help and freedom they could not have without the dog. Seeing eye dogs become someones sight and freedom. There seizure detection dogs that allow people with seizures to live a better life. There service dogs that help teh handicap and help them to live a more normal and independent life.
Pets are the greatest and most loving relationship you can have without any betrayal.

When you pet your pet it is said to relieve stress.
It gives people who are alone a little companionship.
Older people with dogs may stay more active than those without.
It gives some people the sense of being needed.
Last but not least,If you have had a bad day and everyone is upset with you or hates you, at the end of the day that pet is still gonna love you.

Pets improve lives for many reasons. They give a sense of purpose, and a reason to get up daily. They give people someone that depends on them and needs them unconditionally. They give unconditionally. They don't hold grudges. Petting and contact (with anyone/thing but specifically with something that has no "bad" connotations in the mind) reduces blood pressure and releases endorphins. Certain pets can help people gain independence (therapy dogs or cats, therapeutic riding horses). Horseback riding can allow individuals to feel equal regardless of their disability(ies). The therapeutic riding program I work with has actually done published research on the positive effects horseback riding has on both the humans AND the horses involved, so it's not just they benefit us, we also benefit them. Obviously, cats also provide movable paperweights. *grin*

Pets can help people relax when they are stressed. They can really make people feel better. Two years ago my uncle had a stroke and he wasnt really recovering to well. He stopped be his old self and sort of looked depressed. My aunt got him a dog a very playful one at that, an in no time he was out and about. He was carrying the dog for walks playing fetch, and basically he went back to his old jolly self. They can really make anyone's life better. They help you to take your mind off certain things in this world and help you relax. You can even confide in them and sometimes they even look worried (from experience).

Caring for a pet gives people a sense of purpose. Pets give unconditional love. I have also heard petting an animal or snuggling with an animal can reduce blood pressure.

They can help by reducing stress in your life and lower your blood pressure. By petting a cat, dog or other pets, it helps to lower your blood pressure and stress in your life. Some say that it can help those with chronic pain by distracting them by petting the animals that they forget the pain their in. I don't know if that has ever been proven but it's what I've heard.

They allow us to respond to nature and make us feel good about ourselves. They relieve stress, give us a purpose. My dog makes me want to go home and spend time with her, it is not a chore, but a blessing to know there is someone there waiting for me who only has love and affection for me.
