I don't pretend to know the exact rules, but I bring food with me in my suitcase and I never say anything to customs! Just don't bring anything that's alive still, or just cut (fruit & veg), or came from any animals - unless it's tinned!

Tinned foods are pretty safe, and most of them have already been prepared for export to YOUR country so they don't break any rules. Prepared foods like breakfast cereals, chocolates, biscuits, snacks, these shouldn't be a problem (unless they're a weird snack, like dried bat's wings or pig's ears!)

There are limits on how much of certain things you can bring, but they change sometimes ... I don't have time to find that site now ... but generally you can bring enough for 'personal use' for a few months, and presents.

jap governmental events modern status isn't so good. It has basically started via unintentional former PM's resignation. He has lots greater something else to do in precedence now. A wide-unfold election will faster or later take place via end of the year. After the end result, the final public celebration might get replaced. speaking approximately FTA, Japan has been already blessed with worldwide commerce without it. guy or woman company, plant or investors have had fairly some invention and/or creation to enhance how do their company ought to do. It does not quite matter selection for Japan to verify FTA for themselves through fact family members typical industry like farming or fishing and purchasers do no longer opt to stand such low priced and uncertain risky products from foreign places lots better than now. FTA has no choose for to Japan, maximum of all jap have faith so on the 2nd so as that PM ought to delay this undertaking to date through fact it does not help to collect pollnumbers for the election.

Canned foods are generally fine.

Your question is vague, considering you want "solid" information. I am not about to list the detailed requirements of every kind of food.

If it helps, I can send you the gov't booklet (over 300 pages) of detailed info. This is generally used by pro importers, way beyond what you need for personal restrictions. But if you want it.
