they seemed to teach a lot of non-factual material(depending on the proffesor) but they seem to be a hiding place for racist and sexist ideology

you never hear of white studies or white nationalism,,that would be a no-no

seriously though I-ve taken a few of these courses for electives and they were highly racist and fairy tale like anyone have experience

I represent two of the above. I never took any. I think they should be electives and not be in place of any graduating course.

I don't think they should be canceled but my friend took it and they had a book on how to speak broken English that slaves spoke. It was being taught by a German teacher with a thick German accent. And the test questions were silly, which is the correct broken English or something.
I thought that was ridiculous really.

I am answering thinking that you are not some racist jerk hiding behind a legitament question.

I think they really are.

Some people don't like to think that others are inferior.

By making such a class, you are regarding those groups of people as inferior.

Now, if it was a history class about the history of Feminism, African America, etc.. that would make more sense, because you're simply giving them the facts about what has happened, what reactions were to it, and you're allowing them to decide whether or not it was significant.

But by allowing people to have majors such as African American Studies, Womens studies, you're in essence telling them: hey these people are different, learn about how different these people are and spread it around. These people will never be like us whites etc..etc...

This is just a new way to help racism..

I took a Puerto Rican/Latino class, and i can tell you right now, 90% of the class was Latino and very nationalistic. It was sickening.

Those classes just ignite the flames of hatred.

This is one of those things where the quality of the course truly depends on the quality of the professor. I took a women's studies course and thought it was simply awful - the professor was teaching from her own book, if you can believe it, with no other sources. I took an Asian studies course, and it was wonderful, the professor made us go dig up source material, showed us video footage, and all the books were primary sources. I thought it was excellent. A lot of work, but you got a lot out of it.

If these were first or second year classes it may explain a lot of the issues you have had with them. I find that the material covered in introductory courses is too general and "friendly" if you catch my drift. While interesting, these classes probably weren't what you were looking for. If you liked them despite their problems, try taking a higher level course, otherwise don't worry about it.

wow, i wonder who is teaching you these "racist" and "fairy tale like courses?" It just depends on what proffesor you have, like you said.
Ive never had that experience at all when I have taken them, if anything it brings to light important discourses in society,
i don't think they are nonsense, perhaps you just need to have an open mind.

You dont need white studies its predominant in all the history books in this country (USA) already. it seems your question is nonsensical and insensitive. All nationalities history is important.

Are they nonsense? No -- they are not. Will you be able to get a good job with one of those degrees? No -- probably not.
