The humidity is too high in the bathroom. Mold can be found everywhere and will prosper with moisture and a food source. Ceiling drywall and/or tile is adequate for food. Reduce the moisture in the bathroom by running the vent fan for at least 20 min. after you have showered or bathed. Run a dehumidifier also if this does not correct the problem. Feel free to email me for more info.

On a side note, bleach WILL NOT kill the mold. Email me and I will help you with this.

Household bleach will get rid of the mold for a while. But shower cielings are notorious for mildew. You shoud kill the mold with bleach and then when it is dry, you can paint the cieling with a product called KILZ. This is a high solid content paint that will cover stains. After it is dry you should then paint with a high quality latex paint. You can buy some paints at Sherwin Williams that are "made" for showers, but I find a high quality latex paint will work fine.

The important thing is to kill the mold and cover it with KILZ first.

Some good answers so far. Let me just add this.
Always, when you finish up a shower keep the the shower doors and or curtains open. Also the bathroom door
Moister that is trapped is almost always the reason for mold&mildew.

Wipe areas to be painted with 10% bleach mixture..Then paint whole ceiling with a oil base primer like Kilz to seal stain so it won't bleed through. This also seals ceiling from taking up moisture. Then paint with at least a semi-gloss paint. Providing better ventilation before & after showers will help also.

Hi ,I want to say you have a common problem. There is a special paint you can purchase for the bath area. It resists mold growing in that area .By the time you take cleaning that area ,you could paint it.Try the new paint and keep ventilation of bath area.Good Luck

I'm going to take a wild guess that some dingbat used polyethylene sheeting to cover or put under the insulation in the attic. If there is poly in the attic take it all out - it is a moisture barrier and creates mold as you have found.

If clorox, Kilz and oil base paint don't help then sheetrock must come down and be replaced. Water keeps getting into the sheetrock. Wipe with clorox, let dry. Paint with Kilz to kill stain, let dry. Paint with an oil base enamel paint. It sounds like the sheetrock never gets time to dry out. By now, it is ruined.

I almost want to say that the problem is from the condensation that gets on your ceiling when you take a shower. If you have a bathroom fan, try turning that on when you shower. Also, try using one of those sprays that you are suppossed to use after every shower, and spray the ceiling as well.

Bleach will kill the mold and mildew. I would paint the bathroom in semi-gloss and see if that helps. If anything the paint will help because it is easier to wash. Hope this helps u out hon.......Flo

Try using a solution of bleach and TSP (available at hardware stores). I think the recipe is on the box. You have to kill the mold.
