You can start by going to the blog listed below. The guy who runs that is fairly well connected and continues to do more every day. He may be able to point you in the right direction or even do a review of your work.

You need to get your name out, start by playing small clubs and work your way up to big ones. You have to travel a lot to get your name out, just playing the same club all the time won't cut it. You have to have talent and a decent amount of songs. Just having talent and having a demo isn't enough. After you have the talent and the reputation, put together a slick promotion pack. Glossy photo (have a pro do it), professionally recorded and mastered demo, and resume (this is where your club experience comes in handy). Buy yourself a nice web site. Any moron can put their crap on MySpace. You have to put a bit of money into yourself to make it big. It's like a business, you get out of it what you put into it. Then, send your promo pack out to record labels that specialize in the type of music you do.

Good luck! My boyfriend got a Geffen contract, and he started out right where you are.

myspace baby! you've got to do the promotion yourself nowadays. prove your skills, don't just sit on a demo. hassle people, perform everywhere that will allow you to. etc etc

myspace is the easiest way to do it.
you can also go outside of Best Buy stores and give copies of your music to people there.
