Do yourself a favor: depending on how deep the hole are, bring in fill and dirt, rent a compactor from your local rental house, seed, fertilize and enjoy a nice lawn. Filling with concrete, rocks, etc. will only make matters worse in a few years.

Depends. Concrete will cap it at least for a while but something is pulling the dirt out from under you. You need to try to fid the problem. Old cistern, collapsed pipe, an open joint sewer or storm drain will slowly create sinkhole.

Sand would be a waste of time. It will dissappear to wherever the other fines have gone.

Forget the concrete but the sand will work as a filler under top soil. what is the reason for the sink holes, if they are rotting tree stumps filling Will work if they are caused by something else you could have other problems. Make sure they are not wash outs from leaking pipe etc.
