Here are some of my ideas.
1. No marriages can take place until 4 months after applying for a marriage liscense.

This will eliminate all those irresponsible people that get married shortly after meeting.

2. All couple must do mandotary counseling before marriage this will help weed out couples that do not really communicate( ex let's say the counsler in seperate discussions ask the women how many children she plans on having and she says 4 then he ask the man and he says 0 do you see a problem that the couple might not have discussed)

3.Encourage policies thru tax breaks and incentives for couple to stay together.
These are just some of my ideas I would love some thoughtful response and solutions to this problem

Zee Hatman I don't want government interference in marriage but at least manage it like the DMV you have to take a written test, then a driving test before you can even get a licsence, what we have now with marriage is the equivalent of someone that has never driven a car before just buying one and driving off the lot would that be wise.

I completely agree with the need to strengthen the institution of marriage. But I cannot agree with your tactics.

The problem is a "heart problem." Americans have become 3 second sound-byters. We want instant gratification, and we want it now.

The causes of divorce are varied, but this past year I have divorced just as many 25 year old marriages as 3 month marriages.

EDIT: At the risk of sounding pro-divorce, I might add that domestic violence is down, domestic murder is down. I don't know about suicide, but my guess is among married people, also down. Divorce beats murder or suicide in my book.

4 months may be too much, but I like where your mind is going

the second one is going a bit far.
I do like that vegas can't marry people after a certain hour( the hour where most people are drunk) unless they made prior resevations.

maybe it can be harder to get a divorce.
I do worry that the tax incentives may seem like favoritism and may keep people who shouldn't be together, together.

maybe we could have married insuance plans that have two year intervols. that way people want to keep their marriage going until the insurance expires and during this time we can hope they try getting along so they can get their insurance renewed.

You must be a Liberal. Only Liberals think government can correct social problems. The Federal government has a poor record at solving social problems. You want social solutions; start with what you see on TV and in your neighborhood and in the products you buy. Be active. Stand up for your beliefs and find others who will stand with you.

But leave government out of it. Government sucks at social solutions.

Allow gays to marry. Get rid of tax incentives and other benefits.

4. Allow states to vote on homosexual "marriage". Let the people choose (and they have overwhelmingly said NO to homosexual "marriage" in recent past).
