Each team gets a decision- one team at the start of the game, and the other after half time (decided by coin toss at the start of the game). The team does not have to receive the ball but can opt which side of the field they want to face (windy day strategy).

It is the latter. If team # 1 receives the ball on the opening kickoff then team # 2 will receive the ball upon the start of the second half, regardless of possesion when the first half ended.

The coin toss is the deciding factor in this. The team that wins the toss has 3 choices. They can either kick, receive or defer to the 2nd half. If they kick the ball, then they get the ball at the start of the 2nd half. if they receive the ball, they kick at the start of the 2nd half. If they defer, they can either choose to kick or receive the ball as the start of the second half. It is possible for one team to kick or receive the ball twice. This does not happen much, and I am not sure if it has ever happened in the NFL, but has happend in high school.

Whichever team wins the coin toss in the beginning of the game decides whether to kickoff or receive. If they opt to recieve they will kickoff at the start of 2nd half and vice versa.

I hope that explains it.

Its simple. The winner of then coin toss at the begining of the game decides if they want to kick off or recieve, and the team which kicked offs in the first half recieves in the second half.

Actually the team that loses the opening coin toss gets to choose to recieve or kick, or which goal it would like to defend. The team that had it at the end of the first half has no bearing.
