Good news: No.

Only the XBox Live system is a pay.

Got the slim PS2? It's all there. You just need a LAN cable and a router or something like that.

Otherwise, you need to buy an Internet Adapter.

Note: the following games' online servers are shut down:

THPS3
THPS4 as of New Year's 2004
DDREX2 as of September 2006 for DDR SuperNOVA
