Well, if you know the point of the sentence - rewrite it. There are rules in making a sentence sound correct with very little effort.
- Make use of the (,) comma.
- Make use of the (;) semi-colon
- Make use of the (-) dash
When I do my sentences, I make use of these three things. When you know the rules on how to use them correctly, your writing will look well-put together.
The best way to learn how to use them. Check out any NEWSPAPER. I actually never learned it in class and they probably won't tell you about it as well as it shows on the newspaper.

Drop the word "the".
Better yet, try to be less wordy. I think this could be said in fewer words and the reader/teacher will appreciate that.
For example, "Procrastination can also cause students to turn in lesser-quality work because they lost valuable work time."
