It's high, but not where you will have a heart attack or stroke today. You should consult your physician. I'm not sure if you are a smoker, if you are...STOP! You may need for your pressure to be checked several times B 4 they put you on medication. You might have been extremely stressed when your pressure was taken. None the less don't ignore it. Get it checked out. Good Luck.

Very bad. You should see an internist immediately. You are in a stroke/heart attack risk category.

American Heart Association recommended blood pressure levels:

Blood Pressure Category
Normal 80-120/<80
Prehypertension 120–139/80-89

High
Stage 1 140–159/90–99
Stage 2 160 or higher or 100 or higher

Pretty high. Normal blood pressure is 120/80. The diastolic pressure especially should be closer to 80. It may increase by 10 as you grow older. The upper value - systolic may vary - maybe with some exercise or activity. But 156 is also high. One should consult a doctor who may put the person on medication to keep it under control.

For your age, yes that is high. You're systolic should be around 120. If you continue to have that blood pressure for a month or so, yes it could be a problem. Doctor visits usually cause stress which will elevate your blood pressure, but only by a few numbers usually. I would monitor your blood pressure daily to see if it's always that high. Next time you see your doctor, ask him what you should do.

If my blood pressure was that high, my doctor would be doubling my hypertension medication. If this is what yours is reading, I'd be checking with a doctor.

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. It is rather high BP; I don't know your age and it does not matter much - if it persists for long, you have to take medicine to keep it controlled. If it is sudden rise you have to investigate the cause, particularly kidney problems.
