Hi there
I have asked this question before but only got a couple of replies, so was hoping for a little more imput this time round.
here in the Uk they give u the choice of having your baby in hospital, midwife led unit or at home. Up until now i was going to go into hospital, but after all the MRSA scares Im seriously tempted to opt for a midwife led unit water birth. Has anyone out there had their baby in such a unit? what was your experience like? did u regret it? were u ok with no epidural etc? Only experienced ladies to answer pls

MRSA is a very nasty and deadly bug that seems to be spreading throughout our hospitals. The latest strain of it killed a new born and a lady who had just given birth in two seperate incidents. Im terrified of it

You are lucky to have so many choices! Here in the US (in NY) we have like, ONE hospital where water birrth is an option...otherwise, its at home! I had one child at a birthing center (with midwives, and a tub) and one at home - also with a midwife. Both were wonderful expereinces! My first was a looong labor, made worse because i weighed 255 lbs. and was not up to the physical task of labor. (walking, changing positions, squatting etc...) I used water for labor, but when it came time to push, i no longer felt comfortable in the water, i wanted to put my feet on the floor and push HARD and in the water, every muscle is so relaxed you cant even clench your fist! I totally recommend water birth and midwives, whether you deliver in the water or not. The whole event is only one day out of your life, and afterwards, you feel great. I was walking around within the hour after each child. No problem! From what i have learned about interventions, they can delay your healing time. I had a friend who was taking aspirin for two weeks for the pain she felt in her back from the epidural site. (Now thats irony!) William and Martha Sears - "The Baby Book" and Sheila Kitzinger's books really helped me make my decision. What are MRSA scares? Good Luck and congratulations!

i don't know anything about this MRSA, but i think you should use a hospital. it's totally dependant on your prefrence. i, myself, would never use a midwife because they can't do all the things a doctor can in serious situations and if they do something wrong, they have to have a doctor come in and fix it anyway. sorry for letting out like that. i just feel that doctors have the best knowledge of childbirth and complications and in a hospital they can take care of everything there. it really is your choice though. i'm someone who likes the epidural and pain medication to control the labor. but some people are perfectly happy with a midwife. if you want to feel everything (which is never something i've understood why people do, but some people love it) than go ahead with the midwife. just do an interview and make sure you know their procedures if there are complications. good luck! i know i'm totally on one side of the fence, but i thought you might like a different perspective. hope all goes well!

My mom was very happy with her midwife experience. She had me in a hospital just in case something went wrong, but had a midwife attend to the birth rather than an OB. She did a completely natural birth. She wished she could have done the same with my brother.

Everyone I recognize who went to the medical institution and hated it. I recognize a couple of men and women who had midwives in birthing facilities of well hospitals, and it was once a miles MUCH larger enjoy. Iam getting a midwife, in a well medical institution that simplest offers healthful pregnancies (they air carry top hazard to albany), and offers you any choice you desire for start, exept an epi (they are saying its too unnatural and damaging, and I agree). Iam utilizing a bath, and I have an amish birthing stool if i come to a decision I desire it rather. Laying in a mattress, in your again, installed to all types of tubes, seeking to heave a residing frame out of your possess isn't usual, and filled with all types of headaches and unneeded strain in your frame and the toddlers. If you are healthful, and near adequate to switch to a medical institution in case of emergency, i might utterly advocate you to select the midwife and a bath. Everyone i do know stated the bathtub was once the equal as discomfort killer in hard work. It wasnt an epidural, but it surely was once rapid, tolerable, and a lot more stress-free. The simplest fall again is its scorching. The water is scorching. You are scorching. But its stress-free and useful.
