Man, most of them couldn't even 'pledge allegiance' to the U.S. when asked DIRECTLY with absolutely NO PRECONDITIONS !!
Many of you know that I ask hard-hitting and sometimes slanted questions, but I also ask many, many DIRECT questions . And for the life of me, I cannot understand just what is " IT " that blocks REASON and LOGIC from exiting their mouths !!!
Can we please have some logical Conservatives and Liberals explain to me . .. . What EXACTLY is their PROBLEM ???

To 'rationalize' that you're a patriot, and in the same breath say NOT under this President. .. ... . PROVES that you have absolutely NO IDEA of what it means to BE A PATRIOT !! You don't 'get' to change your loyalty, simply because you disagree with any CURRENT President . Thank you for clearing this up !!!!

DEADFOX - That might be a valid answer to another question. . .. ..but not to this one. You've let your liberalism blind you from READING and RATIONALIZING .

Patriotism isn't blind support for elected officials. If every American has to defend the great decider in order to be a patriot it sounds more like North Korea to me.
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."
"Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star", 149
May 7, 1918
"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
Samuel Adams
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."
Benjamin Franklin
"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."
Abraham Lincoln
"We the People are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts--not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."
Abraham Lincoln

YOU are the one who has no idea of what a patriot is.
A patriot is "One who loves, supports, and defends one's country."
I am a liberal patriot but disagree with the current president. That neither shows hatred for my country, that i don't support my country, or that I'm not willing to defend my country.
I LOVE America. I will stay here no matter what happens because I love this country. It's MY country. People like you, though, who twist words until in your mind they're demons are ridiculous. I admit some liberals are fools but so are some conservatives, and you're one of them. You claim to know what patriot means but you don't. You manipulate the word until it means what you want. NO.
Patriot is only "One who loves, supports, and defends one's country." I love, support, and defend it. And if I have to defend it from a bad president then I will! I will criticize him until I turn blue. And not only a conservative president. I criticized Bill Clinton in that scandal and still do. But don't you dare say that I'm unpatriotic. YOU'RE the one who hates other Americans. Who insults your brothers. We're Americans too, don't forget it!
God Bless America
{edit}
I've read your question, and the answer your looking for is just as slanted as your question. It's obvious best answer will go to someone who is as biased as you. What is IT that prevents a liberal from being loyal to our country. Show me an American liberal who isn't loyal to America and I'll tell you why they aren't.
What could hurt America more than people like you telling lies about the other side and polarizing and dividing America? United we stand; Divided we fall!
You speak of liberalism like it's a disease but you really can't stand anyone having another opinion than yours can you? You hateful imbecile. Oops, hope I didn't offend you.
I will say I'm glad to see you add details to your question to reply. That's a good sign.

I am a social and fiscal conservative.I believe we should
pledge allegiance to the flag, the flag represents our nation.
However,we must always keep in mind, that our representatives
may not always have our best interest at heart when they
propose bills or vote on them. Many people can't separate
the idea of a nation from that of corrupt politicians who lead
our country astray. So they make the mistake of hating our
flag and all that it stands for. They are wrong.

They derive their political beliefs on emotion.
I'm sure I'm going to hurt some neolibs feelings, but it's true.
I'll even give some examples:
They feel sorry for poor people and want to help them out. Now, there's nothing wrong with charity, in fact it's a good thing, but when you feel sorry for a poor person so much that you believe that the government should provide for them and their family without any commitment from the poor person, that's wrong.
The logical thing is to have that poor person get a job, even if it's at McDonald's, and then work to improve their conditions for their families and themselves. It's about personal responsibility and pride in yourself.
Some government programs are worthy, such as TANF (TEMPORARY Assistance for Needy Families) which does just what it's name says. Recipients of the program have to either be volunteering their time or going to school to become educated and a beneficial member of society.
Edit: Quote from Sun Spot: "Liberals will not follow a leader blindly". What do you call what'chall did with Bill Clinton and now are doing with Nancy Pelosi??????

What is the point in democracy if you cannot question your leader. I bet you if there was a democrat president raising taxes, helping the poor and getting the US out of wars you would be backsliding at every single opportunity, questioning everything they do and dragging their name through the mud. Patriotism is relative because different people have different ideas of what being loyal and defending their country is.

Liberals will not follow a leader blindly into a Totalitarian Regime.
If you fail to see the historical parallels here that's your own blindness.
The President stated once "This would be alot easier if it was a Dictatorship...and I was the Dictator". Was that just good ole boy humour...was it meant to be funny?
Liberals are more Loyal, they are trying to keep the freedoms the country so greatly cherishes instead of ripping them apart one by one.

Liberals are loyal to the country and the Constitution.
It is more patriotic to disagree with your government when it is going down the wrong path than to swear blind allegiance.

one can be loyal to America but not loyal to the president. corrupt men with hidden agendas should not be followed, they should be stripped of power. GWB has wantonly violated the civil rights of Americans while beating the drums of war and making sure that we remain is a state of fear. The man knows his history and uses the lessons of Nazi Germany very well.

I guess that the libs can be angry with the war we are in, but running away would creat more problems, it would be more patrotic to um WIN, like way doesnt somebody come up with a sratagy for winning, i blame both parties for this, running away and increacing troops are both lame ideas, increacing the troops with out a plan on how to use them other than to have more help on the ground as they say, wont have nearly the effect as say it will if there just there to walk around. i support the troops and all but we need a plan to win, i hope you guys understan what im getting at.

It apparently takes more loyalty to question leadership and their direction than it does to blindly follow them off a cliff like a lemming.
by the way, your last question about the "pledge" wasn't hard-hitting. It was insulting.
watch your "hate" team come out in support for you with such great answers like,
yea, liberals suck
they hate bush
libturds should have been aborted
they hate Christmas
etc, etc.
it's really getting old
