I've been with my boyfriend for 5 years and known him since I was 9. He asked my daughter, what he should get me for my birthday and she gave him a few ideas and then she suggested, "Hey how about you get her what she deserves, a nice engagement ring? She is not his child but he has been around since she was born, and my kids really love him, when he answered he said, its the timing... What timing? I don't know if he even wants to go any further, he says we are going to grow old together and that he is not going anywhere else, that I am it for him, so then why can't he just give me a ring? I have hinted about at least a ring, I am still waiting. What should I do? I am not getting any younger...:( My birthday came and went, I got something my daughter suggested. I really think he forgot about it. Cause he asked my daughter the night before my b-day for help with what to buy me, had he known, he would have asked earlier to have time to shop! What do you guys think??? :(

Obviously there is fear somewhere deep down behind all of that. He might be afraid of failure in marriage, or fear not being a good husband, provider, or father figure. Even before I married my wife there was a lot of things I feared. But I prayed and asked God for direction, and He said to me that I needed to trust in Him and stop limiting Him in what He can do in my life. So in other words have a heart to heart conversation with him about what his fears are. Don't get mad at him, frustrated or loud with him. Be understanding and ask him how can he you help him feel more secure...maybe there is something you can do, or maybe not...maybe it's beyond what you can do and only he must deal with it. God Bless and I know you deserve that ring.....

Talk is cheap, he says a lot of things, but if he's living with you, having sex, and pretending to be married, he has no reason to marry you. He gets all the benefits without any responsibility. If marriage is what you want, you have to stop hinting, have an honest, adult discussion about your future, and decide if he's going to be a real part of it. Stop hinting and start talking like a grown woman. Be a role model so you daughter doesn't think this is ok.

well I am not a guy but I want to answer you: Sorry to tell you but if I was you I will just move on..Because is been 5 YEARS and he haven'y give not even a ring WOW sorry to tell you but you say the majic word you are not geting any younger and is been 5 YEARS come on is toooooo longggggggggg waiting I sugest that you move on. He got a safe place where to land so you give to him that but he don't love you no even a bit if he love you and want to be there for you what is wrong to gor for a serious relationship...Sometimes we do make that happend, have more spectatiosn higher ones no just a sex relationship...Because life is so short to just been waiting...

save the drama for your mama and just ask when he is going to pop the question or you'll just have to find someone new who had the balls to do it.
