Its some kinda instant message thing and i was wondering if when you download it, is it some kind of virus??

Its not a virus, but it will Spam your computer with pop-ups and be extremely annoying. My sister downloaded that to my parents computer and every time you would touch the computer you would get bombarded by pop-ups.
I'd stick with AIM or Yahoo or MSN messengers.

My sister's husband is an owner of IMVU. If you want to talk to him just email me. He also is the artist that drew the entire IMVU "universe." It is very cool, and there is no virus.
I just read the other answer... and there is no spam or danger of spam. They are very professional and are a real business. We have a lot of fun on IMVU. I have forwarded this question to my brother in law.
