...Or are religions all just blind fate?

In my opinion, the concept of god is directly related to the inherent ignorance of the universe we as human beings suffer with. It is not possible for us to know the universe intimately and the lack of true knowledge and understanding is uncomfortable for most people. It is therefore comforting to create myth explaining some deeper meaningful connection to the "All-Being". Notice how Humanity is the center of every creation story, this isn't an accident but rather the reason for the story to begin with. Otherwise, we would stand unshielded from the harsh reality of our ignorance as we stare into the vastness of space with only questions and no answers. It's easier for people to agree upon a collective feel good fairy-tale that places the import on us, and validates the struggles of our lives. Religion is a psychological crutch for the spiritually impaired. Once more, this is my opinion and I refuse to be flamed for it. Take it as you will. I was only sharing my viewpoint. :)

Asking whether god exists is a bit like asking if there is an invisible unicorn on my desk...I don't think there is, can't prove there isn't...but the question is really why would I ask it to begin with? Where there is no answer there is no question, really. The question isn't without sense, as we do have an idea in a grammatical sense what is being asked, but it is meaningless insofar as there is no possible answer.

I also fail to see how exactly the existence of the universe, world, etc. implies the existence of any god. There is absolutely no causal chain that can be linked back to any creator at all, whether god exists or not. If I see a car, and I have only ever heard of one car manufacturer (Ford, for example), does the existence of that car imply that Ford built it? I would probably assume that was the case, but only out of ignorance of the existence of other manufacturers. Not the best metaphor, but hopefully you get the point...

God springs forth from the primitive limbic system of your brain, the last remnants of our reptillion past. The area where our raw emotions reside, including the irrational belief systems.

The 'religious' experience is triggered by deep depression, starvation, near death, or other highly charged situations. The 'born-again' christian phenomena has a scientific basis....yes, your limbic system. Why has man evolved this mechanism you might ask? Simple...it was a survival mechanism of our primitive and barbarian cave man ancestors to cope with a hostile and unknown universe.

The cerebral cortex is a more recent development. Here is where our rational and logical thought processes take place. It is here that the atheists have found their basis in reality.

In reality, there is no sentient, omnipresent, omnipotent supernatural being or force....therefore all the inequities and misery of the world will always persist, no matter how hard some try to get that limbic brain of ours to work...sorry

a god... I don't believe so. The one and only omnipresent omnipicient God, yes. And even Christianity is a lot of blind faith. Because the Bible says, "faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see." so even though God is omnipresent, a lot of times it is hard to tell that He is there because either we don't feel like being in His presence or there is something in our life that has put up a barrier.

Fate on the other hand is meant to say that you are born and are doomed or privaledged to a certain life and that is all you get no more no less and there is no way to change you life. I don't believe in fate because it means that no one can change and no one can better themselves, and that people who have it together don't have to do anything to keep it that way, it just stays that way,

Or course there is. Don't, when you look up at the night sky, or a beautiful landscape, or out at the ocean at sun set you get overwhelmed and know, just know without any explaination that there is something more? something higher than man? That only something way more powerful than man would have to have made this? That there is more to life than living and dying? That death is the beginning of reality? That life was just a phase that everyone goes through, and that what you do in life determines your fate in the after life?

There is no proof that there is a god, but there is also no proof saying there isn't.

If god is real, he or she does not necessarily apply to religion. You can have faith in he or she without going to church. The most important thing is to know that no one can decide what you should believe in but you. Just because you see a 'yes' or 'no' answer on here does not mean you have to believe it. Only let the answers guide you; it is you life, the path you take is your choice.

The first step is to stop confusing God with religion. Once God is contemplated outside of religion the existence is unquestionable.

Not in the 'big guy in the sky' sense. I personally think that after this life, we are all pretty much equal. Depending on how advanced you are. I also don't think we look like 'people' as we know it now. I like to think that we all look kind of like the aurora borealis. That would be excellent!

People get so used to having and depending on a leader, that they become totally afraid that when they die, they will have no one to tell them what to do. Believing in the big guy in the sky gives them the security they are looking for. I'm not saying there isn't a power higher than us, I'm just saying that it is not what we think it is.

You have to decide that for yourself. And it's not blind FAITH....that's the point in just believing, having faith without having "proof". DId you used to, or do you still believe in Santa, tooth fairy, etc.? If you did, you did so on faith, because you never actually saw the real deal.

only you can answer this. do you believe that there is a god? I personally do, but it requires faith in the unseen. Remember, religion and faith are two different things. Religion is a man-made entitiy, while faith and the belief in god is a personal, spiritual entity.
