Congratulations on the new job.

New Employee Orientation is usually a chance for the company to tell you about company policies, procedures and benefits.
The gather several new employees at the same time, so that they do not have to give the same speach to each new employee one at a time.

Often employers will use it as a time to get any paperwork out of the way such as insurance and W4 tax withholding forms.

It is not anything to be afraid of, but do pay attention to what is said.

Orientation is the process of introducing the employee to the polices and procedures of an organization. You will need to report to the proper location on time and be prepared to listen to the employer's instructions. My firm covers safety, privacy, dress code, use of time clock, payroll among other subjects.
This maybe the time you determine your insurance coverage and other benefit deductible amounts.

This is usually the time when you complete required paperwork, IE. tax withholding form. You should also expect to cover the required HR disclosures such as EEOC related stuff. They also cover the requirements of the position that you are filling. This can take days to weeks depending on the employer or profession.

And you fill out forms....W-4 for the withholding, they make copies of your ID and SS number for the I-9, they explain benefits to you, etc.

It's where they lay down the law.

No making out in the storage room, and no xeroxing your buttocks.

Well, first they ask you to get naked and stand in a vacant office cubicle. Then when the FedEx delivery comes for the day . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .It's just their way of saying this is their way we do things here.
