The publisher suggests alternating between Sam's story and Hailey's story in 8 page chunks. I'm not sure what they think you should do with the history. Since the book is so forcefully non-linear, I think part of the experience has to be to determine a strategy for dealing with it. This is certainly a book that has to be re-read to fully appreciate.
