You NEVER ''fix'' a gas tank always replace it. Too dangerous.

If the leak is in the bottom due to rust then there is an easy way to fix it. Auto parts stores sell a product just for this. A Gas Tank Sealer that is a two part system. You have two strips of material that you "knead" together with your hands and it will stick to the "cleaned" area on the tank that has been leaking even if gas is still slowly oozing out the hole. Works great providing that you get the loose rust and stuff off. Since gas itself is a great cleaning solvent there is normally not much oil or grease near the leaking areas, but loose rust can be scraped away with a plastic or brass scraper to avoid sparks. The gas tank sealer hardens in a short time and then you are good to go. If the tank is leaking on the upper areas that you can't get to though would have to drop the tank and in most cases that is not the tank but a gasket or hose leaking. Tanks usually leak due to corrosion from either inside, or outside and that is almost always on the bottom area since the bottom is exposed to salt and stuff from the road, and the water that gets inside sinks to the bottom as well. Brand new tanks for that car can also be ordered from aftermarket suppliers for 130 bucks or so. Illegal to ship used ones so if had to change it with used would have to get that locally. Used ones are considered "hazardous" due to the fact that they have had gas in them.

there is some thing like bondo for gas tanks, but you have to clean the rusty area first, and that means you would have to grind around the hole. car parts places have what you need.

YES.

It's called "epoxy putty". Most auto parts sell it. It costs about $9.00 for a stick of it. Yes a stick.
